                        MR. FRENCH'S GRADE 4 (A1) ENGLISH CLASS ________________________________________________________________________________ EXPERIENCE CLASS Today's class featured the Egg Drop experiment. Students were able to see the force of gravity in action as they tried to drop their eggs without breaking them. Great fun was had by all!         Congratulations to Carrie, Becky, Fifi, Megan, and Silvia for winning the Egg Drop experiment! HOMEROOM * This morning, we continued our discussion of Public Speaking, and a couple of students were able to deliver 2 1/2 minute talks. The topic was Personal Introduction and is something we will continue to build upon as the semester progresses. FRENCH'S GRADE 4 (A1) ENGLISH CLASS ________________________________________________________________________________ A1 LEVEL CLASS TODAY * We reviewed the Homework assigned in the previous class. * We previewed today's Homework. * We reviewed more of the Vocabulary that will be on this Friday's Quiz. Students should practice the Vocabulary words every day. It's helpful if a friend or family member can help quiz them and review the words that are the most difficult. Practice makes perfect! FRENCH'S GRADE 4 (A1) ENGLISH CLASS ________________________________________________________________________________ Please note: The first Listening Exam will NOT be on Wednesday, September 29th at 7:50 A.M. The correct dates and times are here below highlighted in red: QUIZ #2: This Friday, October 1st, 1:40 PM A1 LEVEL CLASS TODAY * We reviewed the Homework assigned in the previous class -  Students were to write their Personal Introductions which can be used to prepare for the Oral Exam on October 8th. In that Exam, students will need to speak for 2-3 minutes about themselves. So the Homework turned in today will serve as the basis for their speaking on the Oral Exam. * The students received the results for Exam #2. The scores were again fairly typical with a high score of 98 and a low score of 47. * The general topic of study today was Vocabulary from the current story, "The Horned Toad Prince". Students need to know these words for Quiz #2

Today, we studied how to deliver a personal introduction speech, and a couple of students were able to practice in front of the class. A1 LEVEL CLASS TODAY * We reviewed the Homework assigned in the previous class. * We discussed the upcoming Exam and what to study. * We practiced some Spelling which is a subject that will be on the Exam. * We reviewed the Story Vocabulary by playing Jeopardy! SCIENCE CLASS * Today's topic was Magnets and Magnetism. We discussed this force in nature so as to better understand it. EXPERIENCE CLASS * In this class, students participated in making water filters! They had great fun seeing how water filters through different things, such as; sponges,

A1 LEVEL CLASS TODAY * We reviewed the Homework assigned in the previous class. * We read the beginning pages of this week's story, "Lewis and Clark and Me". * We discussed the use of Conjunctions which are an important part of writing. * And, speaking of writing, students were shown the Short Answer Grading Rubrik. This is what I will use to grade the writing part of future exams. Students wishing to score the full 5 points on short answers should follow the Rubrik guidelines.

A1 LEVEL CLASS TODAY * We reviewed the Homework assigned in the previous class. * Also, students received their Exam results from Friday. Over all, the class is very typical with scores ranging from 99 to 46. Here is my grading scale: Students scoring below 60 may want to consider changing to the A2 Class. This is my thinking, but I will not make the decision at this time. It will be made by other teachers in-the-kn

A1 LEVEL CLASS * Today, we looked over the first page of our new story, "Lewis and Clark and Me". We also discussed some grammar, prepositional phrases, that appears in it. Additionally, we discussed 25 Vocabulary words that will be taken from the story, and possibly appear on the next Quiz/Exam. These words are here for reference. "Let Me Introduce Myself", "Communication Book", page 5.   TODAY'S HAPPENINGS WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL! We had a happy day today which featured the following: A1 LEVEL CLASS *We all got acquainted today. *Students received their textbooks. EXPERIENCE CLASS *We all got acquainted today. *Our country of study this year was introduced - Iceland! *Students did a project in class: making the flag of Iceland. Becky, student # 24, received Mr. French's award for the best flag!
